6 ergonomic chair tips
Fundamental health principles in the workplace based on the recognition that bad posture when sitting markedly affects the performance and may even cause serious health damage.
1. Seat
For correct sitting position you need the anatomically shaped seat, on which you can sit deep enough, and which provides adequate support. The chair back together with the chair seat should support the pelvis in the correct position, automatically excluding hunched posture. The front of the seat should be rounded and is covered properly to avoid constriction of the blood vessels of the legs. Upholstery should not be too thick, it should also to be air and steam permeable.
2. Seat height
The seat height depends on the height of the working surface. If the latter is rigidly fixed and not adjustable (standard height – 720 mm) the seat height should be such that your shoulders in sitting were relaxed, and forearms formed a horizontal line with the table surface. To prevent muscle strain in your hands, the angle between the arm and forearm should be at least 90 degrees. The angle of bending the legs also should be 90-100 degrees. People of short stature is recommended to use footrest, so as not to create tension in the muscles.
3. Footrest
The footrest must have enough space for the feet of both legs, the footrest height and tilt should be regulated. Its purpose is to ease the tension in the muscles and avoid overly stretched position feet.
4. Backrest
The form of the chair back should provide the correct curvature of the spine. The top edge of the chair back should reach the area of blades, and the base should keep the spine in the lumbar region. The chair back should be able to recede, providing some resistance to the corresponding weight of a man, and should to return to the starting position.
5. Head position
In the correct position your head should be slightly tilted forward. Stands for the securities and monitors must be adapted to that head position. Vision line, therefore, should be directed slightly downwards at an angle of about 20 degrees.
6. Foot space
It is important to have a table with adequate space for the legs. Items that reduce the space necessary to eliminate, because they lead to a fault in posture and disturb work.
